Sustainability

Our Mission

We are a small, boutique brand. We seek to produce our garments in an eco-conscious and ethical manner. No one is perfect. We believe that we can always do better and we will continue to look at ways in which we can change and improve how our products are made and sourced.

Timeless

All of our garments are designed with longevity in mind. Sustainable slow fashion is what we are about. Our aim is that our pieces are worn on repeat and handed down over generations. We hope that you, our customer, will love and cherish your Box+Betty pieces for years to come.

Exclusive

We work exclusively with couture fabric suppliers. We manufacture small quantities of each collection and only make more once we have evaluated the demand. Not only does this mean that our garments are exclusive, it also ensures that our waste and environmental impact is kept to a minimum.

Made in Britain

As a British brand, we are committed to working with local organisations. Our jackets are designed and manufactured in London. In addition, we source our fabric from one of the last remaining vertical woollen mills in the UK. After the raw wool arrives at the mill, it undergoes a number of processes before it is spun into yarn and then woven into fabric. The wool in our tweed is traceable back to the farm that it originated from.

We work tirelessly with organisations that share our commitment to sustainability, both socially and environmentally.

Conscious Sourcing

We are passionate about sourcing premium quality tweed from the UK. This keeps our carbon footprint low and ensures transparency over how and where our garments are produced.

We Love Wool

The tweed in our jackets contains a high proportion of natural fibres including wool, mohair and cotton. The wool used in our jackets is sustainably sourced natural wool.

Our view is that too often wool has been overlooked in favour of synthetic alternatives. Wool is a versatile fabric with qualities superior to synthetics and has natural elasticity, which enables it to resist creasing. It is light, flexible and breathable. It is resistant to odours and dirt. Wool is able to absorb moisture which means that it is suitable for both warm and cooler conditions, making wool a truly, trans-seasonal fabric.

Not only is wool strong and resilient, it uses less energy during its production than the manufacture of man-made fibres. Wool production produces lower carbon dioxide emissions and has a low carbon impact.

Sheep graze on grass and produce a new fleece each year and so wool is 100% natural, renewable, biodegradable and can be recycled for many uses. As wool is 100% biodegradable, it is an effective compost that is broken down by microorganisms in the soil which slowly release nitrogen rich nutrients back to the earth.

Cotton

The cotton used in our tweed has been certified by the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). The BCI is a non-profit organisation that works to make cotton production more sustainable and fair worldwide. The BCI’s mission is to help cotton communities and protect the environment.

Animal Welfare

Our tweed supplier only works with farms that respect animal freedoms. Such farms are annually audited under a number of criteria covering areas such as animal welfare, land management and social impact. Our supplier informs us that all sheep are free range and pasture fed and each wool grower adheres to a strict animal welfare code.

Packaging

Our packaging is 100% plastic-free. The boxes we use are made in the UK from recycled materials and are 100% recyclable.
